Niagara Falls firefighter, Lincoln resident killed trying to save his dog

Tuesday Nov. 10 at about 8:30 p.m., Niagara Regional Police from Grimsby’s 8 District detachment responded to a report of a missing person in the area of the North Service Road and the QEW in Lincoln.

Tim Vail, a 48-year-old Lincoln resident, who had left his home earlier walk his dogs in the area of the North Service Road and the QEW (Vineland) was found dead.

While an investigation in the Niagara Falls firefighters death is ongoing, police believe he died while trying to rescue one of his dogs that had apparently fallen into a well or a hole in Vineland.

Due to the Nov. 11 holiday, a post mortem is to be conducted on Nov. 12 in St. Catharines.

The circumstances of his death remain under investigation by detectives from the Grimsby Criminal Investigation Branch and the office of the Coroner.
