Other – Arrests Made In Overnight Thefts / Pursuit In Grimsby

Friday at approximately 3:30 a.m., Niagara Regional Police uniform officers from 8 District responded to a “suspicious persons” call in the area of Lakeview Avenue and Lakeside Drive in the Town of Grimsby.

Upon the arrival of police, four suspects fled on foot, resulting in a prolonged search of the area by officers, assisted by the K9 Unit. During the search, a significant quantity of property was recovered that had been stolen from vehicles in the area.

As the search continued, police were greatly assisted by residents who reported the suspect’s movements in the area. As a result, two males were successfully located and arrested by police at approximately 5:45 a.m.

At approximately 6:20 A.M., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a suspicious black Honda Civic believed to be related to this incident, in the area of Murray St. and Lakeside Dr., Grimsby.

The male driver refused to stop his vehicle for police and fled. A brief pursuit was subsequently discontinued by the involved officer for reasons of public safety.

The involved vehicle was later recovered abandoned in the area of Casablanca Blvd. and Elgin St., Grimsby, and a quantity of stolen property was recovered.

The investigation of this incident is ongoing by uniform officers and members of the 8 District Detective Services Unit.

Two males, 18 and 16 years old, from the City of Hamilton remain in custody pending a determination of charges to be laid.

Police are actively searching for two other known individuals, who are encouraged to contact police to turn themselves in.

Residents living in the north end of Grimsby in the area bounded by Lake Ontario, Elizabeth St., Olive St. and Kerman Ave. who have had identifiable property stolen overnight from their vehicle or residence are asked to contact Niagara Regional Police. Once again, police would like to remind residents to remove all valuables and lock their unattended vehicles.
