Duncan Storey, Ward 3, Grimsby 2022

My name is Duncan Storey, Official Candidate for Councillor of Ward 3. I was born and raised here in Grimsby where I live with my wife and daughter in our 150 year old 4th generation family home. Nestled between the base of the Niagara Escarpment and the historical downtown Grimsby core, each walk, bicycle ride or Sunday drive is like a trip down memory lane. The last thing I want to see for my daughter is this town become a sea of condos and wall to wall glass. Together, I believe we can implement safeguards to defend against the Mississaugaisation of our quaint village.

I’m running in the 2022 Municipal Election to provide a voice for the community and serve the people who employ the politicians they elect, not the other way around. I work in the digital finance space as a fraud prevention specialist where I often evaluate cyber crimes and conduct investigations into fraud instances. Imagine this skill set will be handy in the world of politics. In the few months I’ve been on the campaign trail, I’ve begun to connect the dots and am well on my way to becoming fluent in the intricacies and nuance of Grimsby’s political landscape.

Back in the 90’s there was a group of Grimsby Citizens called the “Friends of The Forty” including my late grandfather, Patrick Brown. After a decades-long hiatus we’ve been able to continue the “Friends of The Forty Mile Creek” by cleaning garbage out a few times a year to ensure litter stays out of the watershed areas. Hoping to build on this for years to come and get more Grimsbonians involved.

Below is a list of my goals for the new term:

  • Reasonable & Responsible development
  • No more than 4 storeys on Main Street
  • Get the Go Train Station in Grimsby
  • Heritage preservation
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Solve the Mountain Street transport truck traffic problem
  • Pumphouse waterfront enhancement
  • Establish a cohesive working environment in council
  • Pledge to address minor indifferences without using costly integrity commissioner investigations

I’m looking forward to serving the community I grew up in and cherish dearly. Come meet me sometime for a coffee!
