David Brown, Ward 4, Lincoln 2022

After graduating from Brock University with dual degrees I embarked on a successful business career in financial services for over 2 decades. I recently completed serving as a Board Member (Treasurer & First Vice-President) for the Heritage Village Recreation Clubhouse and have been a resident of Lincoln for about 21 years. I am heavily involved in volunteer service including: a full term on the Town of Lincoln Age Friendly Advisory Committee; fundraising for Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie campaigns for West Lincoln Memorial Hospital; and several food and donations campaigns for Village of Hope.

I learned over time by listening to people’s concerns and challenges, that problems are more easily addressed through collaborative solutions. I have listened to resident’s express concern about the proliferation of transport truck traffic as well as speeding automobile traffic on Victoria Ave. Recognizing the existence of the (Town of Lincoln 568 page) Master Transportation Plan, a stricter or more consistent bylaw enforcement presence to complement the potential use of speed cushions to increase safety and calm the traffic on Victoria south of Highway 8.

Others have expressed concern about future urban sprawl in Ward 4 including the building of more unsightly high rises. I oppose these buildings which in some cases encroach upon valuable farm land and potential recreational parkland. I will work diligently to preserve the small town character of Lincoln. I feel Lincoln must work hand in hand with our agricultural community to impede the encroachment of urban sprawl. I support working more closely with the Ontario Farmland Trust in assisting our farming community to protect their land from urban encroachment.

Economically, our town has a long and rich heritage of excellent tender fruit and grape agriculture and corresponding value added hospitality and winery enterprises. These farming and related businesses should be leveraged to create opportunities and beneficial reasonable commercial growth. I feel committed to expanding Lincoln’s presence within our region’s many fruit and wine festivals.

Environmentally all new building projects should need to comply with strong efficiency standards and all infrastructure maintenance and codes should be optimized. I broadly support improving the quality of life by growing the tree canopy, improving naturalized areas, and integrating trails and parks.
