Serious fatal collision in Lincoln

Sunday, June 8, 2014 at approximately 3:50 a.m. the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Lincoln Fire Rescue and Emergency Services responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Moyer Road just west of Cherry Avenue in the Town of Lincoln, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.

Initial investigation revealed that a 1999 Audi A4 was being operated westbound on Moyer Road. After cresting a hill just west of Cherry Avenue the operator lost control of the motor vehicle. The Audi crossed over the centerline before being overcorrected back across both lanes of travel and off the north edge of roadway where the vehicle came into collision with a series of trees.

Two of the three occupants were ejected from the Audi during the collision and the third occupant remained in the vehicle. The third occupant, an 18-year-old Lincoln man called 9-1-1 after the collision asking for help but was unable to give an exact location. Uniform Officers from #8 District in Grimsby responded to the area and conducted a road by road search.

Upon locating the vehicle it was determined that one of the ejected occupants; a 19-year-old Niagara Falls man had succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The second ejected occupant, an 18-year-old male also from Lincoln was in critical condition airlifted to Hamilton Health Sciences General Hospital Site. At 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, June 8th he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The third occupant who called 9-1-1 was transported by land ambulance to Hamilton Health Sciences General Hospital Site, where he remains in stable condition.

The identity of all involved parties is not being released at the request of the families. Police are asking that the public to please respect the family’s privacy at this tragic time.

This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit. At this time Investigators have determined that excessive speed and seatbelt usage were contributing factor in this collision.
